Conquering your 'Setbacks' in School
By Rochelle Triguero

You might be asking yourself, “Why can’t I excel in school?” then you start to think. And after analyzing everything, you ended up with a list of setbacks.

Setbacks are the disturbances or distractions that hinder your concentration from studying.

Procrastination is one of the simplest setbacks that almost everyone has. It is the act of postponing things when you can’t do it now; in other words, Mañana habit. Oftentimes, students set aside school works and do it when there’s no ample time left resulting to cramming and work with poor quality. To overcome procrastination is easy. You can always apply the concept of reverse psychology. For example, if you want to watch TV instead of finishing your assignment, just do the exact opposite. You can also make time tables in order to be organized.

Peers and friends can also be a factor since the way you develop your personality can be dependent on the peers friends you go with. Take the case of having irresponsible friends; when your friends frequently cut classes and you go with the flow, you are starting to change just like them. Choose people the people you go with. You should persuade them to be good and not for them to persuade you to go for the bad side.

Third is being unmotivated. Being motivated when studying can bring out the best in you. If you feel like lacking enthusiasms, the simplest solution is that find your stimulus. But try not to use crushes and rewards as incentives because they can’t always motivate you. For instance, you saw your crush flirting with someone else; definitely you’ll be jealous and soon be unenthusiastic. Aside from that, if your motivation is rewards… will you still be motivated if you start to unrewarded even if you perfected a test or when you can’t get the reward you want for being one of the honors in class? So, take time in choosing your motivation.

Another setback is your gadgets. In a modern time we are living cp’s, laptops and game consoles are the must have’s of a teen. They impose a threat in one’s study habits since misuse can make you addicted to them and it wards you off from studying. Gadgets are supposedly technologies that improve our way of living. These stuffs should be used properly and with discipline.

Students, nowadays, view school as a working place with Mathematics, English and Science to offer. They often neglect the fact that this “working place” is their stepping stone as they go on with the life.

There are lots of setbacks in a student’s life. Conquering them takes a lot of perseverance and personal will. But surpassing them is always up to your own decision. Keep in mind that the beautiful thing in learning is that no one can take it away from you.

Now, start conquering your setbacks! Learn more slouch lee and enjoy life.
